Standing over eight feet tall, light brown in colour and as dry as straw, these reeds were highly sought after in olden times. After all the rain and wind this week, lake levels have risen. They are still quite a bit away from the high levels seen in November 2009 when Ireland and the UK had the wettest November since records began. The snow this week brought to mind the frozen conditions in 2010 and 2011 when the lake froze over for several weeks each year. Temperatures went down to -17C.
